Abstract
593,196. Knitting-machines. LACEY, S. W. B. Feb. 20, 1945, No. 4222. [Class 74 (ii)] The cam mechanism for raising and lowering the long butt, needles at the commencement and end of the formation of the heel and toe pockets on a circular machine, comprises two separate cams A, B interconnected so that the movement of one cam to an operative position moves the other to an inoperative position and vice versa. The cams are carried by slides E, F radially movable in a block C secured to the cam ring D. A pinion G disposed between the slides engages it nick on each slide and is mounted on a shaft H such that rotation of the shaft extends and withdraws the cams. An arm J is connected to the shaft which engages a tappet K when one cam is to be extended and the other withdrawn, and a second shaft L geared to the first has a similar arm N which engages the tappet when the position of the cams is to be reversed. Alternatively, an arm connected centrally to the intermediate shaft and having its ends connected to the slides may serve to withdraw and extend the cams when the shaft is rotated.
