Abstract

552,275. Knitting-machines. BLACKBURN & SONS, Ltd., G., START, H. W., and START, E. Dec. 17, 1941, No. 16271. [Class 74 (ii)] A straight-bar machine for making a turned welt ready for transfer to another machine is provided with a set of transfer points one for each of all the needles and mounted in a readily detachable bar and with means for operating the needles and points to transfer the hoops of the final course of the welt from the needles to the points. Automatic welt-turning means as described in Specification 525,976 may be provided. In one form, Fig. 2, the transfer points C are mounted in a bar C<SP>1</SP> arranged to be detached readily from the end of arms D secured to a shaft D' angularly adjustable to move the points into and out of engagement with the needles A. In a second form, Fig. 3, the bar C<SP>1</SP> can be detached from arms J secured to a shaft J<SP>1</SP> mounted in bearings in the ends of arms K rotatably mounted on the framing L of the machine. An adjustable stop in the end of a second lever J<SP>2</SP> secured to the shaft J' and held in engagement with an abutment J' on the arm K provides means for accurately positioning the points relatively to the needles,
