Abstract

593,031. Centrifugal compressors. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. Aug. 24, 1944, No. 16123. Convention date, Dec. 2, 1942. [Class 110 (i)] A fabricated, welded, compressor casing comprises an inlet 6 and a delivery 9 formed by scroll parts 12, 17, and secured between the latter are a rear cone section 13, diffuser vanes 14, a diffuser-vane plate 15, and a front cone section 16. Flanges 18, 19 are welded together. An impeller 3 runs, with small clearance, inside a wall 20a. The diffuser vanes each comprise a curved partition wall 23 provided with notched and shaped side flanges 24, 25, the flanges 24 being welded to the wall 21 of the cone 13, and flanges 25 to the plate 15. The latter has a flange 26 welded to the outer surface of the core section 16. A number of reinforcing rods are welded at the ends to the diffuser vane plate 15 and the scroll section 17, being in line with webs 32 on mounted lugs 11. The impeller chamber is closed by a plate 43 welded to supporting webs. A packing 45 is provided. The parts may be stampings of sheet steel. The order of assembly of the parts is described in the Specification.
