Abstract

342,065. Multi-stage centrifugal blowers. KEITH & BLACKMAN CO., Ltd., J. and KEITH, G., 27, Farringdon Avenue, London. Dec. 5, 1929, N0. 37268. [Class 110 (i).] In a multi-stage centrifugal fan or blower each impeller except the final one discharges laterally into a number of lateral volute collecting passages 6 each being of constant radius and bounded by a lateral wall 7 which is skew to the rotor axis and each merging into a diffusion passage 8 which opens into a bend or pocket 9, provided by a bulge in the casing 5, from which extends a guide vane 10 forming a passage 18 leading to the eye of the next impeller. Fluid enters the diffusion passage 8 throughout its circumferential length through a tapering opening bounded by the circular edge 15 of the collecting passage 6 and by the edge 13 of the diffuser inner wall 14. Partition discs 17 divide the impeller chambers from the guide vane passages 18. The impellers are provided with side shrouds 24 curved at 25 to deflect the flow laterally. The casings 5 of the several stages are spigot-joined and clamped by bolts 20 The final impeller discharges into a single lateral volute chamber as in Specification 321,847, [Class 110 (i), Centrifugal and screw fans &c.].
