592,926. Glow discharge tubes. COLE, Ltd., E. K. June 13, 1945, No. 14959. Convention date, June 14, 1944. [Class 39 (i)] The cathode 3 of a glow discharge tube is of spiral shape with its apex towards the stem 2 of the tube, an igniting electrode 4 and control electrode 5 also being mounted in the stem. The igniting electrode is connected through a high resistance to a positive voltage higher than the igniting voltage. The control electrode is connected to a varying D.C. voltage, e.g. the screen grid or anode of a radio receiver to indicate tuning or to measuring bridges.
