[Class 110 (i)] In a self-priming centrifugal pump having a priming-liquid reservoir, the impeller chamber is housed within the reservoir, and is associated with a guide or " peeler " blade, the position of which relative to the impeller may be adjusted without dismantling the pump. The impeller chamber 14, which is of volute form terminating in a discharge conduit 23 having a discharge port 24 in proximity to a nipple 7, is formed with a flange 19 and welded to the back plate 12 of the reservoir casing 1. A T-fitting 8 connected to the nipple 7 comprises a discharge branch 9 and a branch 10, normally closed by a plug 11, for introducing priming liquid into the reservoir. An inlet conduit 15 extends between the suction port 20 and an annular flange 26 which is welded to the conduit and also to the casing 1 through an aperture 4. A flanged inlet nipple 53 is attached to the flange 26 with a sheet 54 of rubber or equivalent material sandwiched between. A tongue 55 cut in the sheet 54, has a weight 56 attached thereto and seats against the inclined inner end 57 of the inlet nipple 53 to form an inlet valve. A priming-liquid conduit 16 let into and welded to the inlet conduit 15 carries an arm 30 provided with a resilient tongue 35 which is spaced from a port 31 but is adapted to seat against it to cut off the flow of priming liquid in response to the increase in suction which occurs when priming is completed. The impeller 38 is introduced into the chamber 14 through an opening 37 in the back plate 12, which opening is closed by an annular flange 39 having a tubular extension 40 in which is mounted a seal 41 for the impeller shaft 42. A mounting flange 43 is attached to the extension 40. A plate 46 is adjustably mounted over a vertical slot 45 in the back plate 12 and carries a " peeler " guide blade 50 which protrudes within the impeller chamber and is positioned with its bevelled edge 52 just clearing the impeller periphery. An inspection port 5 closed by a cover 6 is provided.
