Abstract
592,094. Typewriters. DAVIES, H. V. Jan. 23, 1945, No. 1810. [Class 100 (iv)] In a typewriter or like machine wherein perforated material is fed by the engagement of a toothed sprocket wheel with the perforations, the sprocket wheel comprises an internally toothed ring gear 10 driven by a pinion 20 on the shaft 7 of the platen 8 and eccentrically movable about the axis of the 'platen by a plate 14 carrying one or more idler pinions 12 engaging the internal teeth of the ring gear 10. The pinion 20 is driven by a pinion 19 which is rotatably mounted on a pin 18 carried by the plate 14 and is fixed to a pinion 17 engaging a pinion 9 fixed on the platen shaft 7. The ratios of the pinions 9, 17, 19, 20 may be varied to drive the ring gear 10 at the desired peripheral speed relatively to the platen. When the plate 14 is turned about the shaft 7 by means of an arm, not shown, the teeth of the ring gear 10 project over a different part of the periphery of the platen, and by suitable movement of the arm the teeth can be moved out of engagement with the material. The plate 14 is held against rotation by extensions 15 engaging frame rods 16.
