Abstract

813,651. Foil feeding mechanism for printing machines. MASSON SEELEY & CO. Ltd. Oct. 7, 1957 [Oct. 5, 1956], No. 30491/56. Class 100(4) A pigmented foil or transfer feeding mechanism for a marking press comprises, a driving gear 10 which rotates upon the cyclic operation of a platen actuating shaft 4, and a driven gear 12, the gears 10, 12 having complementary gear teeth 11, 13 which extend around only part of their peripheries so that after a certain degree of rotation of the gear 12, which effects feeding of the foil 6, the shaft 4 and gear 10 continue rotation to complete an impression stroke while the foil remains stationary since gear 12 is locked against rotation by the part 14 of gear 10 engaging in a concave part 15 of the gear 12. Rotation of the driven gear 12 turns an arm 38 and this shifts a link 40 to rotate a crank 33 coupled through epicyclic gearing and a uni-directional drive to a knurled roller 18 connected by a friction belt drive 22 to a foil take-up roller 9. The amount of feed of the foil is adjustable by variation of a pivotal connection of the link 40 in a slot 39 in the arm 38, and adjustment to the length of the link 40 may accommodate different positions of a top platen 1 with respect to the bottom platen 2. Brakes. A spring loaded plunger, engages in a groove in the end of the roller 18 to prevent overrun. Spool mounting. The take-up roller 9 is detachably mounted between an axially recessed driving connection at one end, and a spring loaded plunger at the other.
