Abstract
595,488. Printing-machines. HALLEY & SONS, Ltd J., and HALLEY, A. M. July 6, 1945, No. 17256. [Class 100 (ii)] In a rotary machine in which the printing- cylinder a is carried by a lever b and is movable relatively to an inking-rollerg, which may apply an aniline ink, the movement of the lever b to bring the cylinder a into contact with the roller g controls means which bring into operation the power drive of the press immediately upon the contact of the members a, g. The long arm b<3> of the lever b is controlled by a cam c mounted upon a slide e which is moved by a cam d<1> operated by an arm d to bring the cylinder a into contact with roller g, and the arm d operates a thrust-rod for controlling a switch which energises the press motor. The-pressure with which the cylinder a-acts is controlled by rotation of the cam c by means of a gear j engaged by a rack h<1> which is operated by screw-and-nut gearing controlled by a wheel k<1>. The rack h<1> can be put out of gear for quick adjustment of the lever b. The action of the cam c upon lever arm b<3> is counterbalanced by a chain f passing over an idle sprocket wheel f<1> on the end of the arm b<3>, the chain f being secured to a coiled spring f<2> anchored to the machine frame.
