Abstract
591,329. Moulding processes. STONE & CO., Ltd., J., and HODGES, E. F. May 25, 1945, No. 13101. [Class 83 (i)] A method of producing dies for use in casting and moulding operations comprises forming an accurate metal pattern of the object to be produced by the dies, and using the pattern in two or more successive casting operations for the successive casting of the die part, directly, from such pattern, the casting of one part being performed on or against another part. A pattern a, a<1> is partly embedded in sand b in a mould box c, the upper surface of the sand is formed with dowel depressions d and the surfaces of the sand and pattern are sprayed with a suitable dressing. An upper mould box f containing sand shaped with a cavity g corresponding to the outer shape of the required die part is placed on the lower box c and the die part h is cast. The upper mould box, containing the casting and pattern is inverted, the surface of the casting is sprayed with a dressing and another mould box j containing sand b<3> formed with a cavity k is inverted over it and the second die part is cast, thus producing two accurately mating dies. If desired, the process can be extended and the die produced in more than two sections.
