Abstract
Treacle is obtained from beet molasses by heating with lactic acid, e.g., half to five per cent., at nearly 200 DEG F., e.g., for 10 to 20 hours, with agitation if necessary. Water may be added before or during heating, but before adding the lactic acid. The mixture, either hot or warm may be purified with charcoal &c. and filtered, and may be concentrated by evaporation in an open vessel or vacuum pan.
