Abstract
590,663. Drills and cutters. HOLLAND, F. A. Dec. 9, 1944, No. 24723. [Class 83 (iii)] An annular cutter for operating on ferrous or non-ferrous materials, wood, fibre, &c. has a body 6 with a shank 6a for insertion in a machine spindle and having transverse holes for receiving two adjustable bars 7, 8 for carrying the tools. Heads 7a, 8a on the bars receive a double-ended tool 10 clamped by screws 11 and the bars are radially adjustable to vary the cutting diameter of the tool 10 by a hand-operated screw 15a screwing in the body 6 and engaging a yoke 13 on the bars by means of a collar 16 and handle 15b. The bars are locked by screws 11a in the body engaging flats 7b thereon. For cutting annuli, a second double-ended tool 10a may be secured by screws 10b in blocks 12 locked in any radially adjusted position on the bars by further screws. A pilot 18 screwed in the body 6 engages a central hole in the work, or alternatively, for engaging a large hole, a conical centre 18a, Fig. 5, may be rotatably mounted on a pin 19, 19b screwed to the body and be pressed outwards by a spring 20. The tools may be shaped to produce a bevel or radius on the edge of the work, and the double-ended cutters may be adapted for cutting in either direction of rotation.
