[Class 83 (iii)] Tool-holding rigs for lathes have means for. supporting a boring-bar and also one or more turning or screwcutting tools which may be used in succession without dismantling the rigs. A hollow post 18 is secured to a compound slide 10 by a T-headed shank 20 screwing in a cup-shaped member- 21 having a vertical stud 19 for a nut 23 which serves to clamp the post on the slide. V-shaped surfaces 37 on the post, inclined to each other at 90 degrees, locate a boring-bar 12 coaxial with the lathe axis, the bar being clamped by a yoke 24 having a 60 degrees V-slot 49 and a nut 25 screwing on a stud 18a on the post 18. Horizontal flanges 60, 61, Figs. 2 and 3, on the post support a turning-tool 64 and a screwing-tool 69, each mounted on a swivel pad so that the cutting-edge may be adjusted to the axial plane of the lathe. The boring-bar and cutter 64 may be used in succession with the same setting of the post 18, by adjustment of the slide 10, but the post may need to be rotated on the slide through 90 degrees to allow the cutter 69 to be used. An inclined slot 16b and a transverse slot 17a are provided at opposite ends of the boring bar so that a cutter may be used at either end and uniformly spaced graduations x are marked on the bar to facilitate the setting relatively to the work. The member 21 has a central aperture 21a to receive the bar and rotation of the member in the post is prevented by a dowel 22. In a modification, the flanges 60, 61 are replaced by a boss 75, Fig. 11, having a cylindrical aperture 76 in which a tool bar 77 may be secured by screws 80 engaging a flattened surface 79 on the bar. A turning &c. cutter 88 is secured in a forked end 81 of the bar and rests on a swivel pad 86 to allow the height of the cutting-edge to be adjusted.
