541,685. Turning ; steady rests. STANLEY, A. E., and HALL, A. C. May 4, 1940, No. 8017. [Class 83 (iii)] A combined carrier for a tool-holder 16 and V-steady holder 17 for attachment to a turret lathe consists of a carrier 10 formed with sockets for receiving the stems 14, 15 of the holders, the carrier 10 being provided with a trunnion-like hollow shank 11 mounted in the turret and embracing a split-sleeve 31 which can be compressed by a screw 32 and constitutes a chuck to hold a centering device for the end of the work piece. The shank 11 and the stems 14, 15 are held in position by pad-bolts 18 or cotters, and the head 19 of the tool-holder is eccentric to its stem. The V-steady 24 is adjustable in a transverse slot 23 in the head 22 of its holder 15, and is clamped in the required radial position by a cone-headed bolt 28 engaging a slot 26 with sloping sides 27 formed in the steady, and the work-engaging surfaces 25, 25a differ in size.
