Abstract

590,547. Magnetrons. DAWTON, R. H. V. M., and WRIGHT, C. S. Sept. 8, 1942, No. 12628. [Class 39 (i)] At least one resonator of a magnetron having a number of coupled, directly-excited resonators has a connection between two points on its surface which suppresses the fundamental mode of oscillation. All or some only of the resonators may be so treated and the connections may themselves be interconnected. In one form a groove 12, Fig. 3, is formed in the top of the anode block 1 and a wire 11 is inserted in the groove which is burred over. The effect is to constrain each slot resonator 4 to oscillate only in a mode having a nodal point at the wire, in the case shown the third harmonic. In another form each slot 4 is slightly grooved at 14, as by an outsize drill, and a peg 16 is forced in. Specifications 588,185 and 590,546 are referred to.
