Abstract
571,623. Piezo-electric crystals. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., and LEWER, S. K. Feb. 24, 1943, No. 3027. [Class 40 (v)] In a piezo-electric oscillator of the kind comprising a slab of crystal which when excited by a pair of electrodes on opposite faces oscillates so as to produce on said faces, a series of straight parallel nodal lines, at least one of the electrodes comprises a plurality of parallel ribs spaced apart by a distance equal to the distance between the nodal lines. Preferably both electrodes are so formed and are placed so that the ribs of both electrodes lie along nodal lines on both faces of the crystal. Then by moving the crystal in a direction perpendicular to the nodal lines a small change of frequency can be effected, the maximum change being when the movement equals half the distance between the nodal lines. An AT cut quartz crystal is described as a suitable example.
