Abstract

590,269. Mountings for non - recoil guns. BURNEY, SIR C. D. Oct. 23, 1942, No. 14889. [Classes 92 (i) and 92 (ii)] A mobile high-angle non-recoil gun of the kind described in Specification 586,749, has a breech chamber 9 behind the projectile communicating through a bridgepiece 19 with a pair of rearwardlydirected gas-discharge nozzles 10, the gun being mounted by rear trunnions x, off-set from the training axis, on the cheeks 6 of a turntable or turret 5 which can be traversed on a frame 1 supported on wheels 2, 3. The arrangement is such that the discharge from the nozzles, when the gun is elevated, is clear of the vehicle frame in substantially all positions of gun traverse. The projectile is loaded fowardly into the chamber 9 by using a ram-rod 17 and loading tray. The cartridges are inserted rearwardly into chambers 8 from a loading platform 11 mounted on pivoted links 12 to rise and fall with the gun during its elevational movements. The mounting is transported, after depressing the gun barrel on to the frame 1, by connecting the limber vehicle to the axle of the wheels 3.
