Abstract

7681. Dawson, Sir A. T., and Buckham, G. T. March 26. Loading-appliances.- Relates to apparatus of the kind in which a loading-tray or cage occupies a loading position immediately behind the gun but beyond the limit of recoil, and of the kind in which a movable guide is provided for bridging the gap between the loading-tray and the gun breech, and consists in providing the tray with a pivoted guide adapted to be brought into a position to bridge the gap by the nose of the projectile during its forward movement. When applied to semi-automatic guns, the guide is formed with a projection which acts as a buffer to prevent the ejected cartridge case from striking the waiting ammunition on the tray. Fig. 1 is a side elevation of a loading-tray B forming part of a hoist B<x>. The tray has the guide C pivoted thereto at c. When the ammunition is moved forwards for loading into the gun A, the nose of the projectile engages the guide and rocks it about the pivot c to bridge the gap between the tray and the gun. After the loading operation, the guide tilts back again into the vertical position, either by gravity, or under the influence of a spring. The ejected cartridge case is stopped bv a projection C' on the guide C. The movable ejection stop-device described in Specification 8016/14 may be employed in the apparatus shown.
