Abstract

589,842. Milling cylinder heads. ASTON MARTIN, Ltd., and HILL, C. March 23, 1945, No. 7442. [Classes 83 (ii) and 83 (iii)] [Also in Group XXVII] A cylinder head 13 for an internal combustion engine, Fig. 1, has a counter-bore 14, which is an extension of the cylinder containing the seating for an inlet valve whose stem extends co - axial or parallel with the cylinder axis, and a recess 22 of wedge shape section to form a combustion chamber with the exhaust valve seated on its upper sloping wall. The recess 22, Fig. 4, is machined by using a milling cutter 61 of truncated conical form set at an angle equal to that of the exhaust valve seat and then fed into the head in a direction X parallel to the cylinder axis.
