Abstract
589,806. Seats. GATEHOUSE, N. July 20, 1945, No. 11873/44. [Class 52 (ii)] A chair has a forwardly and rearwardly moveable seat adapted to control a back rest or squabs, which is capable of a swinging movement to assume different angular positions in relation to 'the seat and to a headrest, and is characterized in that the backrest is also capable of a falling and rising movement according to the movement of the seat. As shown the seat frame 8 slides on seat supporting rails 5 which are provided with stops 11 and a batten 10 to prevent rising of the seat the members 18 provided at each side of the seat frame pulling the backrest frame 15 with its squabs 16 forward when the seat frame is made to slide forward. The back frame 15 has a loose pivotal axis at the hinges 14 with the headrest frame 7 or the squabs 16 are hinged to a squab 17 slidable on the headrest frame 7 so that the back frame falls as the seat frame is moved forward, a roll 20 engaging under a projection 19 of the seat squabs 13 being provided to prevent the formation of a gap between the seat and back squabs. In a modification the member 18 is replaced by a pin on the seat frame 8 which slides in a slot in a plate on the back frame 15.
