Abstract

In a process for preparing cement raw materials from an ore containing calcium carbonate the ore is subjected to froth flotation using as collecting agent for the calcium carbonate one or more of the following, free fatty acids containing 10 to 14 carbon atoms, soaps of such acids and sulphonated or sulphated derivatives of such acids or soaps which have, attached to the carbon chain, a sulphonyl or sulphate group in addition to the carboxyl group. Suitable fatty acids are capric, lauric and myristic found as glycerides in copra or palmnut oil and they may be used as emulsions or as alkali metal soaps. Part only of the ore may be subjected to the froth flotation treatment. Three examples of the process are given. Specification 502,669 is referred to.
