Abstract

589,525. High pressure fluid. containers. NYE, J. A. March 24, 1945, No. 7498. [Class 8 (ii).] [Also in Group XXII] In a high-pressure fluid container of the kind comprising an inner shell nesting within one or more outer shells the former is made of ductile material of thickness sufficient only to contain the fluid, and the latter shell or shells constitute a casing to protect the inner shell from strain due to internal and external pressure. The inner shell 1, Fig. 1, is formed of two thin cupshaped steel or copper sections 1a, 1b welded or sweated together along their abutting circumferential edges. The outer shell 2 is similarly formed of steel but has flanges 4a, 4b to allow of welding without damage to the inner shell. A threaded neck 5 has a flange 6 by which it is welded to the inner shell. To reduce weight the outer shell 2 may be perforated at 10 or constructed of expanded metal, woven wire or the like. In a modification the outer shell may comprise a central section 11, Fig. A, welded to twoend sections 12, 13.
