A pressure vessel consisting of a cylindrical core tube 1 around which is wound several layers 2 of alloy steel strip has a self-sealing cover 7 the rim of which is forced by the con. tainer pressure into engagement with a sealing ring 9. The sealing ring bears laterally against the inside of the core tube and upwardly against a multi-part pressure ring 5 which is disposed in a circumferential recess 4 in a sleeve 3 which is screwed and/or shrunk on to the outer layer of the coil 2. The several parts of the ring are respectively held in position in the recess by bolts which pass through holes 6 in the sleeve 3. Before sealing the cover 7 is held suspended from a ring 8.
