Abstract

588,940. Hypodermic syringes. ELLIOTTS & AUSTRALIAN DRUG PTY., Ltd. Jan. 23, 1945, No. 1847. Convention date, Sept. 15, 1942. [Class 81 (ii)] A hypodermic syringe comprises a collapsable tube 6 having an externally divided neck 7 furnished with a pierceable diaphragm 8, a cap 9 having a female end portion able tc screw on neck 7 and a threaded male portion 10, a hypodermic needle 16 secured by, e.g., soldering or compression, to the male portion, and a sheath 11 able to screw on to the male portion. Preferably, the threads on the two portions of the cap are oppositely screwed. A gasket 18 may be provided on the inner portion of the needle. Flange 12 enables the cap to be screwed further into the neck of the tube when the needle pierces the diaphragm, ready for use after removal of the sheath. Flange 12 may have a square or other polygonal cross-section. In the storage state, the parts are held in position by a tearable sealing strip passing over the tube, cap, and sheath, or by two short strips between the cap and the tube. The specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 also comprises a hypodermic syringe in which the screw threads between the cap and neck, or the sheath and cap, or both of them, are replaced by plain cylindrical surfaces. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
