Abstract

505,212. Pipe joints. EVERETT, S. J. Nov. 8, 1937, Nos. 30605/37 and 8754/38. [Class 99 (i)] [Also in Group VI] The invention relates to liquid-tight mountings for hypodermic syringes or like small surgical in. struments wherein substantially complementary conical mounting parts are interfitted by pushing one into the other, and is characterized in that one or each of the substantially conical parts is provided over at least a portion of its length with a series of groove formations which do not project above its conical surface and which extend around at least a portion of its circumference, the said formations being such that there is no continuous groove extending along the whole of such length of the part as is interfitted with the other part., The groove formations may comprise a thread extending around only a portion of the circumference or along only a part of the length of the surface. The thread may be eccentrically cut as shown in Fig. 1. Alternatively, the formations may comprise grooves or steps as shown in Fig. 5. The surface may be slightly barrel-shaped. The formations may be applied to an adaptor, screwed on to the nozzle of a syringe and having a needle designed to pierce ampoule. Parts with different groove formations are slightly deformed by pressing the two parts together with a slight rotary motion, giving a liquid-tight and film fit. The mountings may be made of brass, artificial resin, or pewter.
