588,749. Electrically tripped switches. LANDIS & GYR SOC. ANON. March 7, 1945, No. 5707. Convention date, March 13, 1944. [Class 38 (v)] The moving contact 16 of a motor protection switch bridges normally-fixed contacts 6, 7, which are moved away when a heavy overload occurs. Flexible leads 13 are connected to the contacts 6, 7 and therefore are not flexed during normal switching, when the contact 16 only is operated, by hand or by the armature of a switching magnet. The contacts 6, 7 with an insulating piece 8 form a movable structure biassed to the right by a spring 15, but latchedin by a half-cylinder 9 engaging a detent 11, the contacts 6, 7 being slidable within an insulating piece 5. When the core 3 of a quickbreak magnet 2 attracts an armature 4, the latter causes a lever 10 carrying the halfcylinder 9 to unlatch the detent 11 and open the switch. The contacts 6, 7, 16 are housed in a quenching chamber 1. Specification 588,724 is referred to.
