Abstract
647,628. Automatic circuit-breakers. 'SIEMENS - SCHUCKERTWERKE AKT.- GES. Nov. 17, 1948, No. 29943. [Class 38(v)] In a multi-pole automatic circuit-breaker having groups of magnetic and thermal tripping members, two transmission means, each common to one of the groups, are provided between the groups and the latch, there being an adjustable lost motion between the two transmission members so that the magnetic members can operate very rapidly on a short-circuit whilst the thermal response is delayed. A pawl 7 is normally latched by a stop 6 on a transmission member 5 common to magnets 1, which are connected in series with bimetal strips 3; and magnetic blow-out coils and the breaker contacts, Fig. 1 (not shown). The strips 3 act on a second transmission member 8 connected to member 5 through an eccentric 13 which is adjustable to set the operating currents of the strips. On a short-circuit, one or more of the plungers 2 moves down to rotate member 5 counterclockwise to release pawl 7, and with a less severe overload one or more of the strips 3 bends upwards to rotate member 8 clockwise, and, through the eccentric 13, rotate the member 5.
