Abstract
588,335. Joints for metal bars. FRANKENSCHWERTH, K., and RANDALL, J. E. Feb. 10, 1945, No. 3390. [Class 20 (ii)] [Also in Group XIV] A clamping means for securing together structures of sheet material, preferably metal, which is primarily intended for adjustably securing cabinet shelves, comprises a sheet metal channel member d co-operating with a channel member b to clamp together the cabinet side member a, back e and shelf f, the two members b, d being drawn together by a clamping bolt c. The side member a is bent round as at a<1> to form a hollow post which slidably receives the channel member b, said channel member having apertures b<1> to locate the clamping bolt c. The member d has a portion d' cut away to accommodate the thickness of the back e, and preferably both upper and lower flanges are cut away so that the member d may be reversed for use at either side of the cabinet. In a modification, the hollow post may be of triangular or other shape, the inner side being slotted to accommodate the clamping bolt c, and the channel member d may be furnished with a slot to accommodate the flanges of two adjacent shelves, thus facilitating the addition of an extension to an existing cabinet.
