Abstract

610,632. Furniture. DORAN, H. E. April 12, 1946, Nos. 11242 and 27108. [Classes 52(i) and 52(iii)] An article of furniture comprises a series identical units having flat tops and depending side panels and box-sectioned feet integral with the panels and having an interruption between them. Fig. 20 shows one arrangement wherein the units 1 are superimposed to form shelves which some of the units are provided with double doors 22, 23, back plates and base plates 13 to form cupboards and others provided with runners upon which drawers 17 are arranged. As shown in Fig. 2 the flat top 2 and depending panels 3 form a U-shaped unit provided with flanges 4, 5 respectively. The lateral edges are formed with central portion 8 which is flanked by depressions 9 formed by bending inwardly the material of the unit. These form the locating means in conjunction with complementary feet 6 of box-formation arranged either side of an interruption or central depression into which projects the central portion 8 of the unit next below it. Drawers 17 are arranged to run on runners formed as grooves in insertions 14 which are positioned between the flanges 5 ' of the units 1 which insertions 14 are kept in place by struts 18. The drawers have projecting edges adapted to run in the grooves of the insertions 14. When a number of units 1 are arranged as a cupboard, doors 22, 23 are hinged to the units and a back plate is secured thereto by studs passing through keyhole slots in the flanges 5 of the units.
