Abstract

587,815. Vehicle wheels. HILL, D. C. (Representative of HILL, W.). Jan. 18, 1945, No. 1475. [Class 144 (i)] Relates to wheels for tractors and military vehicles which are fitted with tread lugs adapted for adjustment into and out of ground-engaging position. As shown, the lugs 18 are mounted on levers 17 which are pivoted on rings 15 angularly adjustable on the wheel-hub 10. The levers are guided by bolts 20 engaging slots 16 in the wheel discs or spokes 12. A spring-pressed locking-pin 23 controlled by a cam-headed hand-lever 30 serves to secure the rings 15 in either position of adjustment, displacement of the rings being limited by bolts 32 fitted with rollers 33 engaging arcuate slots 31 in the' wheel-hub. The rim 11 is formed with a zig-zag tread 9; or, it may be fitted with a pneumatic tyre or rubber blocks for road use. Specification 513,966 is referred to.
