Abstract

559,337. Vehicle wheels. SMITH, R. W. Aug. 11, 1942, No. 11222. [Class 144 (i)] A tractor wheel having retractable spuds or strakes 3 is adapted to be fitted with segmental tread surfaces 6 of rubber or other resilient material mounted in detachable pan-like elements 5 located between the strakes. The rim of the wheel is formed by segmental angle brackets 1 secured to the felly or spokes 2 between channel members 4 in which the strakes are' adjustably secured. The pans are slidable on to the angle brackets and may be secured by tongues 7 on the pan edges bent over the brackets. The rubber surfaces may be ribbed. To provide a plain tread, the angle brackets are detached to enable the pans 5 to be removed-therefrom and are again assembled, the strakes being retracted. A rubber tread may be provided by retracting the strakes when the pans are in position.
