Abstract

587,470. Galvanic batteries. SOC. LE CARBONE-LORRAINE. March 26, 1942, No. 3997. Convention date, Oct. 6, 1941. [Class 53] In an alkaline battery in which regeneration of the electrolyte takes place by the use of either a plurality of zinc electrodes b, c, d as described in Specifications 435,141 and 478,396, or of a catalyst such as chalk or sodium chloride, the positive electrode a is surrounded by a sheath g of flexible non-conducting material such as a woven fabric or microporous rubber in order to prevent deposits on the bottom of the cell from making contact with the positive electrode. In one construction, Fig. 4 (not shown) a layer of glass wool is placed between the electrode and the sheath. The positive electrode may be of porous carbon or briquetted copper oxide.
