751,320. Batteries. HUGHES, V. A. B. (Electric Storage Battery Co). Aug. 16, 1954, No. 23741/54. Class 53. A negative electrode for use in a battery having a positive electrode of silver oxide consists of zinc sponge supported on a copper, bronze or silver screen or gauze which is covered with a hard non-porous coating of zinc. that may be applied by plating from an alkaline cyanide bath. The sponge zinc may be applied by pasting the screen with a mixture of zinc oxide and potassium hydroxide solution and electrolytically reducing the oxide to metallic zinc in a bath of potassium hydroxide. The edges and surfaces of the plates are finally pressed to remove protruding wires and other irregularities.
