Abstract

565,094. Batteries. POOK, H. W., and BATTERY CONSTRUCTION, Ltd. Feb. 23, 1943, Nos. 2944 and 12451. [Class 53] - In a dry cell of the layer type, the peripheries of the two contacting electrodes 2, 4 are insulated from each other by a continuous web or fin 6, Fig. 6, which extends inwardly from, and is integral with, the moulded frame 1 in which the electrodes are mounted with the associated layers of electrolyte 3 and mix 5. An additional web 9, Fig. 6, of insulation may be arranged as shown. The carbon electrode is dished so as to have aflange-like perimeter 4a directed away from the zinc electrode 2, and may be moulded in situ. Channels 10 in the frame form a vent when the frames are assembled, the vent having a filling of porous material having a grain which will pass gas under pressure. In the form shown in Fig. 5, the frame has a ledge 12 formed on one side with a rib 13a so as to form an expansion chamber 14 which may receive electrolyte material 3a.
