Abstract
<PICT:0587012/III/1> An apparatus for separating moisture and gas from contaminated oil comprises an inlet pipe 16 for the oil mounted in a casing 10, a gas outlet 11, an oil discharge pipe 35, an open top container 20 with a discharge pipe 31, and a heating coil 26 arranged in the container between a series of perforated plates 23, 24, 25. The oil is deflected by a baffle 17 on to the perforated plates, spreads out as a film and drips through to the base 29 of the container which may be inclined so as to direct the oil to the pipe 31. A second heating coil 44 drives off residual moisture from the oil, and an outlet 32 is provided to remove the grit and foreign particles which settle out. The cleaned oil may pass through a filter 37 and a cooler 38. The separator may be used in conjunction with high vacuum pumps.
