586,971. Converting rotary into reciprocating motion. McILRATH, J. H. July 21, 1944, No. 13967. Convention date, Sept. 29, 1943. [Class 80 (i)] Mechanism for converting rotary into reciprocating motion and vice versa comprises two cranks 1, 2 connected together for rotation in the same direction, for example by gears 7, 8 and 9, and engaging by means of sliders 12, 13 in a slotted lever 11, one end of which is guided in a rectilinear path by a slipper 14 engaging a guide rod 15. A rod 16 for operating a reciprocating pump may be secured to the slipper 14, the gear 9 being driven by a pulley 10. Alternatively the reciprocating motion of a piston applied to the slipper 14 may be converted into rotary motion of the cranks. The cranks are arranged so that they alternately approach and recede from one another and may be of equal or different throws.
