Abstract
585,364. Seed sowers. SLATER, G. July 5, 1944, No. 12793. [Class 6 (i)] In a machine for sowing seeds singly of the type in which seeds are fed from a hopper to recesses in a drum, the recesses are connected by circumferential grooves in which run ejecting fingers for the seeds, and the hopper is transversely movable to bring its outlet into register with various rings of recesses to vary the rate of sowing. In the form shown, a hopper 1, divided into compartments 2, is mounted above a drum 4 rotated by land wheels (not shown) in any suitable manner. The drum is provided with rings of recesses 5, the recesses being joined by circumferential grooves 6a, 7a, 8a, and each recess is of a suitable size to receive a single seed as it passes beneath the hopper outlet. Spring-loaded fingers 9 run in the grooves and eject the seeds from the recesses to fall to the ground through a delivery shoot (not shown). The hopper is movable transversely to cause some or all of the rings of recesses to register with the outlets of the compartments 2, and by arranging that the sets of recesses are in a staggered relationship with one another various rates of sowing may be effected.
