Abstract

585,216. Collapsable trays. SANDERS, PHILLIPS, & CO., Ltd., and BERENDSOHN, R. L. March 31, 1944, No. 6001. [Class 18] A collapsable desk tray or the like is formed from a rectangle of flexible material by folding up the margin of the rectangle to form sides 2, 3, the square so formed at each corner being given an outward fold along each of the two edges 14 common also to the tray sides and an inward fold along the diagonal 15 which joins its innermost and outermost corners 16, 17 so forming outwardly projecting triangles. The corner squares are retained in their folded condition solely by fasteners or clips (e.g., press fasteners 9, 10, or U-clips 12) readily releasable or removable for collapsing the tray. The sides and bottom of the tray are stiffened by rectangles of cardboard, strawboard or the like, or by open frames of metal or the like, enclosed between the flexible material of which the tray is made and a lining. Cotton wool, or other padding, may be introduced between the stiffening material of the bottom and the lining.
