Abstract
585,157. Valves actuated indirectly. STEADMAN, F. S. Jan. 31, 1945, No. 2849/44. [Class 135] The flow of gas to a burner is controlled by a valve of the type which is opened automatically by the depression of a lover by a utensil as the latter is placed on the burner, and the valve includes a spring-loaded plunger which projects to the outside of the valve casing and is there anchored to the lever, the end of the latter being arranged to bear on the valve casing and to rock about the point of contact therewith. When a utensil is placed on the burner 18, a two-armed lever 17, 19 is forced down and turns about its end 20 which abuts the closing plug of the valve casing 1. A series of holes 25 permit of adjustment between the two arms of the lever. As the lever moves downwards, it pulls down a plunger 9, against the action of its loading spring 10, and allows a ball 15 to become unseated from its position, closing the passageway 6 through which gas enters the valve casing. Gas can then flow through a'passage 12 to a nozzle 14 leading to the burner. A manually-actuated gas cock 3 is provided in the inlet passage. Cleaning of the passage 12 can be effected by removing a screw plug 16 closing the end thereof. A pilot light may be tapped off from the supply side of the cock 3.
