Abstract
585,084. Centrifugal and axial flow compressors. BRISTOL AEROPLANE CO., Ltd., and OWNER, F. M. July 24, 1945, No. 18967. [Classes 110 (i) and 110 (iii)] In a compressor unit having an axial stage and a centrifugal stage coupled together, the rotor blades of the axial-flow stage which are disposed next the impeller blades of the centrifugal stage are equal in number to, or a multiple of, the number of impeller blades, and the entry edge 19a of each impeller blade 19 abuts the trailing edge of one of said' rotor blades 12a the trailing edge of each of the abutted rotor blades being a mirror-image of the entry edge of the associated impeller blade and being smoothly blended into its own leading edge. The axial-flow compressor rotor blades 12 and spacers 14 are retained in position axially by the impeller at one end and an annulus bolted to the rotor at the other end.
