Abstract

712,589. Elastic-fluid turbines; axial-flow compressors. ROLLS-ROYCE, Ltd. Feb. 21, 1951 [March 3, 1950], No. 29444/52. Divided out of 712,523. Classes 110(1) and 110(3) In an annular fluid conveying duct having a guide vane assembly comprising a set of blades 229, Fig. 2, circumferentially distributed in the duct for imposing or removing a swirl velocity component on the fluid flowing therethrough, each blade has a curved or cranked spanwise axis and such a profile that the radially outer and inner portions of the blade impart radially outward and inward components respectively to the fluid conveyed into the duct. The blades are of aerofoil cross-section, Fig. 3, with the mean camber line concave outwards and concave inwards on the radially outer and inner portions of the blade respectively, the outer and inner parts being of substantially equal length. The duct may constitute the flow duct of an axial-flow turbine or the diffuser duct of an axial-flow compressor or the blades may constitute the stator blades of an intermediate stage or stages of an axial-flow compressor.
