Abstract

702,265. Axial flow compressors. ROLLS ROYCE, Ltd. June 16. 1950 [June 16, 1949], No. 16124/49. Class 110 (1) In a multi-stage axial flow compressor having an annular duct, at least a portion of each stator blade of the inlet row adjacent to the inner duct wall is adjustable so as to permit variation of the ratio of the-swirl velocity to the axial velocity. As shown, Fig. 3, the radially. inner portion 28 of the blades of the inlet blade row of the stator is adjustable about shaft 29. In alternative embodiments (not shown), 28 may be adjusted by means of a spindle projecting radially inwards through the fixed section of the blade supported on the duct outer casing or the blade may be in one piece and subjected to torsion at its inner end. In Fig. 4, the movable parts 27, 28 of the inlet stator blades are respectively movable by shafts 30, 29 which project through the outer and inner duct surfaces. In Fig. 5, the inlet stator blades consist of a fixed part 31 and an adjustable part 32 which is movabte about the diagonal spindle 35.
