Abstract

584,920. Filling gas cylinders. LINDE AIR PRODUCTS CO. Feb. 4, 1944, No. 2044. Convention date, Feb. 1, 1943. [Class 8 (ii)] One spent cylinder or group of cylinders is evacuated while another is being refilled after evacuation and so on, giving a continuous charging operation. A mobile unit may be provided comprising a truck carrying a container for liquid oxygen &c. a liquid pump and vaporizer and a vacuum pump and valves controlling connection to charging racks which may be carried on the tailboard or on the ground adjacent. Fig. 7 shows apparatus in which two sets of cylinders C are provided, filled through a line 18 having a pressure regulator 20 and an auxiliary receiver 34 and exhausted through a line 19 having a lubricant trap T and a bursting disc. The valves 23, 25 connecting the cylinders with the charging line are actuated from a shaft P on which is a cam I adapted to engage either side of a dog on a lever acted on by a solenoid against a spring. A second solenoid G is energized by closure of a mercury contact in a column 33 when the proper charging pressure is reached, and breaks the circuit of the first solenoid, releasing the cam and allowing it to be turned over by hand. The vacuum valves and the pressure valves are mechanically connected.
