Abstract
584,805. Ruling devices. WEBB, B. G., and ELLIS, S. P. J. July 18, 1944, No. 13753. [Class 97 (iii)] An instrument to facilitate drawing spaced curves comprises a base plate a with a longitudinal slot at one end, a carriage o slidable in a guide member m, k mounted on the base plate a, a pencil or the like r on the carriage o with its point adapted to pass through the slot, and means, u, s, for clamping the carriage o to the guide member m. The base plate has at the slotted end an arcuate edge b adapted to slide in contact with the edge of a ruler or template such as that described in Specification 583,569. A shoulder w on the carriage o abuts against a stop v in the-member m when the point is in line with the edge b. The point is resiliently held away from the drawing surface either by a spring connection between the pencil r and carriage o. or by mounting the member m on the base plate a by a leaf spring g as shown. Distance pieces may be placed between the shoulder w and stop v to facilitate setting of the pencil.
