Abstract
584,654. Chain-testing machines. DENISON & SON, Ltd., S., and LENTON, A. Jan. 18, 1945, No. 1484. [Class 106 (ii)] The holder located at one or both ends of the specimen in a chain-testing machine comprises a rotatable turret which incorporates a plurality of grips of different sizes and characters, whereby links of different form may be mounted therein. As shown in Fig. 1, the ends of the chain b under test are mounted in holders a and a stress is applied by a ram c. Each holder is provided with a plurality -of jaws, pockets or dogs a<2> (Fig. 2), into or on to which an end link of the specimen can be connected, and is mounted on the bed-plate of the machine so as to be rotatable about a vertical axis. Means, such as a locking-pin d adapted to engage in one of a series of holes in the bed-plate, may be provided for locking the holder to the bell-plate when the holder is correctly positioned for the particular grip to be used.
