Abstract
567,662. Drawing. HEAD, WRIGHTSON, & CO., Ltd., WRIGHTSON, SIR T. G., and LAKE, N. C. July 20, 1943, No. 11800. [Class 83 (iv)] Tongs and grippers.-Draw benches for rods have means for engaging the rods by push devices to force the rods through the dies sufficiently to enable them to be gripped by the grippers of the pulling-carriage. The means is designed to deal with one or a number of bars, and comprises a push carriage C situated immediately in front of the dies and formed to receive an interchangeable gripper holder 2 having taper recesses 5 to receive sets of wedge-shaped jaws 3, 4. Coaxial with each pair of jaws is a double-acting fluid pressure cylinder 9 having a hollow ram 10 of bore sufficient to pass and guide the largest size of bar to be drawn. The rams are connected to their jaws by removable gags 15 with lugs engaging cross slots in the rams and jaws according to the number of bars to be drawn simultaneously. For smaller bars the rams are fitted with adapter sleeves 17 connected to the rams at 18 with a semicircular joint engaged by a semi-rotation.
