Abstract
566,811. Flaring tube ends. BRISTOL AEROPLANE CO., Ltd., and HARVEY, H. J. July 7,1943, No. 11036. [Class 83 (iv)] A tube to be flared at the end is clamped between dies 20, 21, shaped at 25 according to the flare required, and supported internally by a plug 26 on a rod, 27 having a slidable and pivotal connection at 28 with a piston rod 15 to facilitate insertion and removal of the tube. The movable jaw 21 is operated through a lever 33 by a piston rod 32. The expanding tool 18 slides along the rod 28 as impelled by the piston rod 15. Supply of air to the cylinders 31, 14 is controlled by a valve 35 comprising a disc 37 carried by a bolt 38 pivoted in end plates 36, 51. Air admitted at 40 passes through the bolt to a port 41, communicating with a pocket 42 in the face of the disc 37 that communicates with ports connected by pipes 45, 46 to the clamping and expanding cylinders respectively. Rotation of the disc 37 by a lever 39 admits air first to the clamping and then to the expanding cylinder. After the operation, the valve is returned to the position shown in which an arcuate slot 47 puts both cylinders into communication with an exhaust pipe 48, permitting springs to return the pistons.
