Abstract

584,397. Lubricating cap spindles. BRIGGS, E. Aug. 7, 1944, No. 15014. [Class 120 (ii)] Cap spindles D lubricated by one or more felt, &c., pads A, through which a spindle passes and disposed in a recess B in the lifter plate C, are provided with a housing E for the pads, such housing being mounted on a single spindle only and making a close joint with the plate C. The housing also supports the cap spindle tube K and is of such a depth , that it exerts no pressure on the pads which are collectively of such a thickness that they project considerably above the top of the plate C. The top of the housing E is preferably formed as a cup F, to contain the usual boss H on the wharle J, and is furnished with holes G through which lubricant may pass to the pad A. The housing E is provided with a lip L, engaging the edge of the lifter plate, to prevent the turning of the housing when the wharle is running.
