Abstract
449,991. Stuffing-box substitutes. VISCOSE CO., Marcus Hook, Pennsylvania, U.S.A.-(Assignees of Davidson, H. O. ; Meadville, Pennsylvania, U.S.A.) Sept. 27, 1935, No. 26756. Convention date, Oct. 9, 1934. [Class 122 (v)] [See also Group XXXIV] Lubricant in a sump 14 is pumped to a bearing 12 by a ring 18 fixed to the spindle 5 and having a conical bore, the oil being discharged through holes 20 in the form of a spray. The oil that passes through the bearing returns to the sump 14 through passages 22. The sump is fed from a cup 16 having a hole 19 to maintain atmospheric pressure in the sump. As shown the spindle 5 carries a member 27 for supporting a bobbin. The member 27 tends to draw oilladen air from the bearing. To neutralize this effect a disc 24 with grooves 25 in its upper face is fixed to the spindle, the disc extending a greater radial distance than the oil passages 22. A cover 35 extends inwardly between the member 27 and disc 24. A shield 17 surrounds the ring 18.
