Abstract

169,453. Soc. des Moteurs Salmson, (Systeme Canton-UnnÚ). Sept. 23, 1920, [Convention date]. Capillary and centrifugal action lubricators. - Vertical shaft bearings for gyroscopes &c. are lubricated by wicks from a reservoir to which oil is raised by centrifugal action. Reservoirs H, h formed in the bearings and their caps G are connected by passages P, and vertical strips of felt F, Fig. 2, are placed between the adjacent edges of the bearing brasses a, b. A rotating cup S below the upper bearing forces oil centrifugally into the lower end t of a pipe T delivering to the chamber h, and excess returns by a pipe R to the cup. In the case of the lower bearing, a plate 2 with radial perforations 3 rotates with the shaft and forces oil from a reservoir B up a pipe T'. At low speeds when the centrifugal devices are not acting, oil is supplied by wicks M. An adjusting-screw m, by which the footstep bearing C is supported, is formed with a bent channel q admitting oil.
